Have you ever felt that the only time a bank wants to lend you money is when you don't need it? Many people believe this and it is often all too true for small businesses.
Another hurdle small businesses face comes if the business needs a smaller loan of less than $50,000. Many banks won't take the time to talk with a small borrower.
Where to turn? There are nonprofit organizations around the country called micro-lenders who will offer business loans of $50,000 or less. Many of these micro-lenders target certain groups for their loans, like minorities, low income people or women. But this could be just the recipe for your business if you've been turned down by a bank.
But remember, a micro-lender uses the same criteria as a bank when granting loans...you have to show them that your business can earn enough to pay them back. So be sure you have a solid business plan before you call.
